The Job

CNN Politics is looking for an evening Breaking News Editor to oversee nighttime digital politics and Washington coverage.

The Daily
• Be the lead Breaking News Editor for CNN Politics' digital coverage on weekday evenings, coordinating closely with CNN's newsgathering partners and ensuring that digital's coverage is current, accurate and smart
• Edit and help produce stories for digital
• Help manage a team of reporters by providing strong direction, feedback and editing guidance
• Communicate clearly with the CNN Politics digital team on evening developments and handing off in an organized manner to the team's AM counterparts
• Demonstrate an ability to juggle multiple breaking news stories at a time, knowing what to prioritize and coordinating with the rest of the digital team to delegate as needed
• Flag important and urgent news developments
• Conceptualize and edit breaking news stories and show an understanding of the nuances of packaging content for the web, including social media
• Create sharp headlines
• Make independent judgments and decisions on whether content is suitable for our platforms and audiences
• Have a passion for political news, and be unafraid to build the future of journalism on the web with the urgency politics demands; and determined to define some of the country's most important political stories for the mobile social generation of news consumers
• This role requires constant communication and coordination with the Managing Editor, Political Unit, Multi-platform Editor, video team and our international bureaus in Hong Kong, London and elsewhere

The Essentials
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related discipline or equivalent in experience
• 4+ years' experience in an editorial or reporter role at a traditional or digital native news organization
• Sound editorial and social judgment; excellent writing and visual communication skills
• Strong content management system experience on desktop web, mobile web, and mobile
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment making independent decisions.
• Proven experience for developing audiences across web, mobile web, social accounts, through SEO. Strong understanding of mobile, apps, and social (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
• Strong copy-editing skills
