Associate Editor, Newsletters, Underscored

Job Description

Primary function:
The Associate Editor will program content across all internal channels for CNN Digital's reviews and recommendations site, CNN Underscored. In this role, the Programming Editor will analyze audience data and work closely with the Underscored Deputy Editor to make content promotion and programming decisions throughout CNN's O&O channels, including CNN.com and CNN email newsletters.

The ideal candidate has experience programming content for a digital media publication at a national scale, sharp data analytics skills, and experience writing, editing and testing headlines, decks and photos for article promotion. Knowledge of the commerce and affiliate space is a plus.

Working closely with the Business Development team, the Programming Editor will help the Underscored Editorial Director/Deputy Editors determine the best strategies for optimizing distribution across CNN channels with the goal of increasing traffic, conversions and revenue. They will also contribute ideas to the editorial team that will lead to new approaches to promotion and/or coverage.

The Daily:
• Program Underscored content on the CNN desktop and mobile homepage and app, and the Underscored landing page, including A/B headline and image testing
• Curate and build the CNN Underscored newsletter (three times per week)
• Integrated Underscored content daily into dedicated CNN newsletters
• Use existing data to create benchmarks and strategies for measuring success
• Strategize ideas for increasing newsletter readership and developing segmentation
• Experiment regularly to boost traffic and conversion rates

The Essentials
• College Degree
• Must have 3–5 years' experience programming and/or writing content, plus data analytics experience, for a major publisher
• Flawless grammar & spelling
• Must be proficient in MS Office Suite
• Must have sharp analytical skills
• Strong creative and writing skills are a plus
• Must be detail-oriented, organized and have strong communication skills
• Position reports to CNN Underscored Deputy Editor
