Associate Editor, Beauty (CNN)

The Job

Tasked with editing and writing about all things beauty, the Associate Editor, Beauty will be CNN Underscored's expert on the latest trends and product releases in the beauty space. This role will be responsible for writing and/or editing five to eight articles per week including user tested review pieces, trend roundups and shopping roundups. This individual will work alongside the Lifestyle Editor to build out an editorial calendar based on tentpole events, new beauty launches and relevant trending products. The Beauty Editor will also work closely with Underscored's social media team to ensure we are covering items trending on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other platforms our readers use.

Developing content that fits with the CNN Underscored audience is a must, but you will be encouraged to test creative new angles and continue to expand CNN Underscored's lens of focus.

Core Duties/Responsibilities
• Stay abreast of beauty news/trends and pitch product-focused reviews and shopping roundup articles
• Edit/manage a team of freelance writers
• Extensively research, write and produce product-oriented editorial within the Lifestyle vertical
• Work with PR and company contacts to help secure and produce exclusive product reviews and recommendations
• Optimize new and existing content based on market trends and analytical insights specific to the CNN Underscored audience demographics
• Work with the social media team to translate coverage to engaging social posts and videos

Level of Responsibilities/Accountability & Scope
• Knowledge of how to source the latest products and product news
• Deep knowledge of beauty launches and products, and deep PR relationships with beauty brands
• Excels at short-term assignments that often require the application of independent judgment
• Work is subject to supervisory review at regular intervals
• Operates within the context of defined procedures

Education, Experience, and Requirements
• College degree preferred
• Must have at least 3 years of experience in writing and/or editing lifestyle or shopping content, and a strong interest in ecommerce
• Experience using photo editing tools
• Experience and desire to appear on camera for social content a big plus
• The ability to break down potentially complex topics into an easily digestible format
• Flawless grammar & spelling
• Must be proficient in MS Office Suite, and comfortable using content management systems
• Strong creative and writing skills are required for this position. Must be detail-oriented, organized and have strong communication skills.
