Responsibilities
Select, the online shopping destination on CNBC and NBC News, is looking for a managing editor to oversee editorial operations and brand expansion for the newly relaunched commerce destination. The managing editor will determine the strategic vision for this site, manage a team of leaders, writers and editors, and work cross-functionally to achieve the goal of growing Select's audience and revenue.
The managing editor will be responsible for the big picture goals, including developing the content strategy, social and distribution strategy and working across teams, including audience development and product, to improve user experience. They also must be willing to jump in and help with day-to-day responsibilities that come with growing a small but nimble team. She/he must have a deep knowledge of the lifestyle space including personal finance, and a passion for high quality service journalism along with the ability to sell their vision to executives.
Job Description:
• Manage team of editors, reporters, and freelancers
• Collaborate with Compliance team to manage strict issuer rules and requirements
• Build relationships across teams, representing the editorial point of view when working with legal & standards, product, business development, compliance, audience development, as well as the executive team
• Develop distribution strategy including newsletter, social and promotional tactics to help drive brand awareness
• Balance editorial and business needs and have a clear vision on how we can achieve the goals of growing revenue and audience.
Qualifications/Requirements
Skills:
• Deep understanding of personal finance content, including credit cards, personal loans, mortgages, insurance, and investing
• Strong understanding of lifestyle and news-adjacent space with a focus on reporting
• Excellent editing and copy editing skills, plus a clear understanding of what audiences are interested in reading
• Ability to work across teams and advocate for editorial needs
• Ability to lead a team and develop and maintain the tone and voice of a new site
Requirements:
• Minimum 8 years experience in digital media; ecommerce experience preferred
• Bachelor's degree
• Ability to work from New York City office
Additional Requirements:
