Job Description

Join the fast paced, innovative, CBS News congressional reporting team. We break news across all platforms of CBS News.

Work closely with producers, correspondents, assignment desk and crews for news gathering on Capitol Hill.

Attend press conferences, stakeouts and events on Capitol Hill and report news of the day from those events for all platforms of CBS News. Provide exacts of key bites when necessary.

Talk to and interview Congress members and their staff. Set up interviews with members of Congress for correspondents and all platforms of CBS News.

Contact congressional offices for information on meetings and events that may not have been announced yet. Keep a futures calendar for upcoming congressional events.

Collect video and sound bites for use across all platforms of CBS News. When necessary researching archival video material for use in news stories.

Track legislation and Committee hearings.

Provide research and analysis on legislation, policy issues and Capitol Hill related topics to correspondents, producers and broadcasts.

Produce LIVE Shots with Correspondents for all broadcasts.

Duties may require some early mornings, late night and occasional weekends depending on the Congressional schedule.

Skills/experience:
• Strong editorial judgment and excellent writing skills
• We are looking for someone who can multi-task and thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
• The ability to work quickly and efficiently under daily deadlines.
• Strong communication skills
• You are a self-starter while also taking direction from producers and senior producers.
