The Role

HuffPost UK is seeking an energetic, ideas-driven Life Reporter (maternity cover) to produce lifestyle journalism that helps our readers navigate their lives, gets them talking, and grows our audience.

We're looking for an intuitive digital journalist to work within our small but busy Life team, researching and writing daily stories across wellbeing, health, relationships, family, home, work, food and money.

Being – and living – well has never been more of a priority. You'll be producing a high volume of articles that explain, engage and entertain readers on how best to live their life, whether that's an update on the latest Covid variant or travel rules, a riff on a new food or lifestyle trend, or a deeper read on relationship psychology or work-life balance.

You'll have a firm grasp of the issues that matter to readers, because they matter to you, and should be able to talk about your ideas with confidence and bring them to life with flair. You'll be great at sourcing case-studies, experts and voices to share experiences and perspectives that we've not read before. You'll also be comfortable with working towards traffic goals.

The reporter will be fast and precise when it comes to news-pegged stories, while staying organised and focused as they manage longer-term features and projects. Experience with newsletters, social media programming and using audience data to understand how readers interact with your work is a plus.

This is a critical role in a close-knit newsroom, so it's essential you have strong written and verbal communication skills and enjoy collaborating with other editors and writers.

You Will
• Producing daily news-pegged Life stories and longer term features and series
• Bringing topical, relatable Life ideas to daily and weekly planning meetings
• Maintaining a great contacts book of story sources, experts and case-studies
• Reading around the news and media to find original and surprising angles
• Socialling and promoting your stories to targeted and wider audiences
• Contributing to newsroom-wide audience targets and ideas generation

You Have
• Extensive experience writing lifestyle journalism in house and/or freelance
• Comfortable writing across a wide range of lifestyle subjects and article formats
• Proven ability to turn around clear, accurate and engaging copy at speed
• Curiosity and appetite to generate both news-pegged and evergreen story ideas
• Understanding of HuffPost UK's values, brand and place in the media
• Great communication and collaboration skills
