KNX News 97.1 FM is expanding its digital news operation and is looking for talented digital journalists with solid news judgment, newsgathering skills, and a passion for local news and audio storytelling. The digital team works across all platforms, from the web to social media to smart speakers. This position is an opportunity to join an award-winning news operation that has built a large loyal listening audience over many years.

The Digital Multimedia Journalist reports to the Digital Managing Editor and is responsible for executing content production on all digital platforms, including newsletters, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. They pitch ideas and write for various platforms while adhering to the organization's style guide and closely monitor breaking news and analytics to help the brand achieve its goals.

The ideal candidate is a quick-thinking self-starter and resourceful reporter with strong writing skills and the ability to ignite engagement on topics ranging from local politics to pop culture. You have a sharp instinct of what readers will engage with and are on top of breaking news, human interest, viral, and cultural stories with a commitment to content analytics. You thrive in a fast-paced, communication-driven team environment and can take direction well.

Responsibilities
• Create, produce, and optimize content for use across all digital platforms
• Write and edit headlines and text to position content for maximum engagement on social media
• Help grow the brand's social media followers and referrals to our website
• Engage and respond to followers in real time
• Brainstorm and execute innovative new social strategies, test new platforms, and expand social monetization opportunities
• Respond to breaking news and actively monitor sources of breaking news (Dataminr, Twitter, AP, etc.)
• Collaborate with digital and broadcast staff to advance and tailor stories and other content for social
• Post to social media accounts, compose push notifications and newsletters
• Use real-time data in Google Analytics and Chartbeat to drive editorial/story decisions

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
• 2-3+ years of digital content experience
• Flexibility to work nights/weekends as needed (news doesn't stop at 5 p.m.)
• Outstanding news judgment, ability to work under deadline pressure and strong writing skills
• Strong self-editing skills with keen attention to detail in grammar, punctuation, and design layout
• Command of best practices on all social media platforms
• Experience with content management/online publishing systems
• Proactive, organized, and self-motivated with a team mentality
• Understands web and social analytics and how to interpret data

Preferred:
• Passion for local news, podcasts, and digital media
• Ability to evaluate news leads and tips to develop story ideas
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments while under deadline pressure
• Willingness to experiment and innovate
• Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Premiere, or other comparable photo and video editing software

Vaccination Requirements

Pay Transparency:

The anticipated starting salary range for California based individuals expressing interest in this position is $50,000 to $60,000. Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and location of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity.
