Director, Corporate & Community Communications

Job Purpose

The Director, Corporate & Community Communications is responsible for directing and implementing the franchise's external affairs/public relations strategy, with primary focus on corporate communications, business development, marketing campaigns, community affairs, events and concerts, and branding.

Primary (Essential) Duties
• Secure strategic news coverage (TV, print, online, radio, social media) about the organization's business ventures, including driving business ticketing, concessions and marketing initiatives as well as concerts & events.
• Secure strategic news coverage (TV, print, online, radio, social media) community impact storytelling and highlighting corporate partnerships initiatives, people and culture awards.
• Engage proactive communication tactics to create media/publicity opportunities to promote franchise initiatives.
• Develop strong relationships with and manage media relationships locally and nationally to maximize mutually beneficial promotion and cross promotion.
• Write news releases and media advisories.
• Manage the media database to ensure messaging is delivered to the correct audience.
• Track earned media coverage in support of Corporate Partnerships activations.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Ticket Sales, Community Affairs, Corporate Partnerships, Events and Entertainment, People and Culture and other departments to maximize publicity tours for team promotions, giveaways, special events, community initiatives and more.
• Promote in-stadium initiatives for food-and-beverage, merchandise and unique features.
• Organize and execute media events/opportunities at Chase Field and external locations.
• Maintain a knowledge of organizational calendars, promotions, events, etc. and participate in strategic planning meetings.
• Serve as the communications arm for Arizona Diamondbacks Events & Entertainment (ADEE) events, including special events (i.e. sporting events, clinics, luncheons/dinners, conferences). Support the VP of Communications for concert promotions.
• Develop functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function annual and measurable goals for the role.

• Successful history of earned media and strong media relationships
• Service-minded approach with a passion for relationships
• Desire for collaboration
• Understanding of traditional and modern storytelling
• Knowledge of the business of sports
• Enthusiasm about idea generation and execution
• Creative thinking and writing skills
• Social media savviness
• Understanding of sports/entertainment trends
• Knowledge of promoting a brand
• Experience with the nuances of baseball, navigating the demands of the schedule and an understanding of MLB systems (credentials, stats, etc.) is preferred.

Experience/Education Requirements
• College degree or equivalent experience required (5-8 or more years)
• Experience with managing relationships and influence with the general public, the media, the community, and government offices or agencies

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:
• Move equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Work in warmer conditions during summer months
• Depending on event, ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
