Job Description
What We Are Looking For

APA seeks a highly motivated junior to mid-level attorney to join APA's Business and Legal Affairs department in the Los Angeles office. This position will report to the Head of Business and Legal Affairs and will entail reviewing and negotiating agreements touching concerts/touring, live comedy, film, television (scripted and unscripted), endorsements, and branding.

Duties
• Responsible for negotiating a variety of agreements, including but not limited to those for marketing, branding, music and both above- and below-the-line deals.
• Serve as a strategic advisor and business partner to agents and executives, providing decision making support and guidance related to deals and contract negotiations.
• Apply innovative problem-solving skills and practical business judgment to balance APA's business needs and acceptable levels of risk.
• Foster positive, long-term internal and external client relationships with agents, managers, and artists.
• Other duties as required.

Skills And Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills which will enable him/her to interact with a range of personalities and styles in a fast-paced business environment, and to work effectively with people at many different levels (including agents, managers, senior executives, studio/network business affairs, producers, artists, other attorneys, and in-house client divisions);
• A solution oriented problem-solving approach;
• Excellent drafting and analytical skills;
• A high level of organization;
• A strong work ethic; and
• An upbeat temperament, dynamic personality and highly team-oriented approach to work.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience
• JD from an accredited law school.
• Admitted to CA Bar, or able to qualify for RIHC in CA.
• 2+ years of transactional legal experience with at least 1 of those years spent working on entertainment agreements pertaining to talent.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience in some or all of the following areas:
• drafting and negotiating talent agreements (e.g. actors, writers, producers, directors),
• license/production services agreements;
• intellectual property;
• guild/union (e.g. SAG-AFTRA) and non-union labor and employment law; and/or
• legal production work related to audiovisual content.
