Job Description

Please note this is a hybrid position and requires you to work from our studio. This is not a remote opportunity.

As Lighting Pipeline TD at Animal Logic, you'd join a diverse and energetic team building and maintaining a state-of-the-art tool kit for lighting and rendering ground-breaking animated movies.

You'll be using your Python, UX and computer graphics experience to directly support an awesome crew of talented lighting artists across multiple projects and studio locations, as well as providing high-quality rendering services to departments up and down the pipeline.

What you'll get to do:
• Develop and maintain code for artist tools and automation, primarily using Python and Qt
• Assist the Lighting team with day-to-day technical issues related to managing their 3D scenes, using our proprietary lighting software, and rendering with our in-house renderer
• Contribute ideas for improvements and optimisations to tools, workflows and automated processes
• Support CG supervisors and Lighting department supervisors in using technology to meet the creative goals of the films in production
• Collaborate with our counterparts in the R&D department, particularly the renderer team, on diagnosing problems and implementing innovations in our technology stack
• Supporting pipeline TDs in other craft groups, in particular with the automated renders which are used through the pipeline and maintained by the Lighting Pipeline TD team.
• Write and update technical documentation for artists and other technical staff
• Take on responsibility, solve problems, and make our lighting artists happy!

What you bring:
• Significant experience in Python development
• Some experience with the principles of computer graphics and standard software used animation/VFX/video game pipelines (Maya, Houdini, Katana, Blender etc)
• Experience with the software development life cycle: version control, code reviews, etc
• An ability to work in a dynamic, creatively-driven environment with evolving priorities and a daily mix of both ''support'' and ''pure development'' work
• An ability to communicate effectively with technical, artistic and managerial colleagues

The following would be considered a bonus:
• Experience in software development for film, TV or animation
• A degree in Computer Science or equivalent software engineering experience
• Developer experience with render engines, the principles of light transport, or classical cinematography
• Experience with USD (Universal Scene Description)
• Experience with the Qt UI framework
• Experience with programming languages beyond Python, especially C++
