What you'll get to do:
Key Responsibilities
• Provide guidance and support to the team member's shots from lighting production through to finalising based on project deadlines and milestone goals
• Follow Supervisor direction to create and design lighting for complex scenes; look developed assets, animation files and FX elements
• Provide direct visual support/feedback to artists where required
• Work with the Creative leads to ensure that tools and procedures support the creative process through existing tools or by supporting new tool development if required
• Work with the Creative leads to interpret the visual goals in context of the tools and processes of the project
• Communicate and comment on the schedule implications of visual requirements
• Provide solutions to visual problems through existing tools or by leading development of new tools
• Use appropriate compositing software to create a composite tree that combines the rendered levels and adjust the final composite until it meets the vision of the Directors and Supervisors
• Communicate updates and track data per Production direction.
Leadership Responsibilities
• Leads a team under guidance from Lighting Supervisor and production team
• Provides leadership and works with production and Artist Management to develop the skills and abilities of all digital artists in their team
• Mentors less experienced digital artists
• Understands the overall brief and goals of a project and communicates this clearly to each member of the team
• Delegates work responsibly to ensure successful completion of shots across team members of all skill levels
• Perform daily one-on-one rounds with artists
• Communicates production information to both the artists group and Production Management
• Participates in brainstorming and problem solving to create and maintain production pipeline(s) and support AL's overall technical goals as required
• Documents new techniques and distributes updates to peers, crew and Production Management
• Prioritize and break down a project into organized parts
• Support open communication between your department, R&D and all AL departments
• Work with the Lighting Supervisor and the production team to prepare bids and pitches as required
• Participate in the recruiting and interview process for new employees as required
• Assist Production Management in preparation of final show reports as required
• Ensure conflict is identified early and work with Artist Management to put constructive solutions in place to resolve/diffuse.
• Create synergies between different work groups to promote efficiency and optimization and to generate innovative ideas and approaches to 'how we do things'
• Be an active and inclusive member of the studio's culture and community, promoting team engagement.
What you bring:
Qualifications
• 7+ years' experience in feature animation, VFX, and/or animated television with a focus on Lighting
• At least one completed high end feature animation project
• Wide experience on key lighting for feature animations
• Proven leadership experience within feature animation or VFX
• Proficiency demonstrated through past project work and/or reel/portfolio
Skills & Abilities
• Must have a good ''eye'', and a good understanding of light, colour theory, contrast, shading, and lighting design
• Advanced demonstrated knowledge and production experience in node based lighting software such as Katana, Houdini Solaris, Gaffer and Clarice Builder
• Experience working with Nuke in full-CG projects
• Experience with path tracing renderers , such as Arnold
• Experience with multi-shots workflows
• Completion of degree program or working equivalent
• Demonstrates solid understanding of pipeline development and the ability to communicate in high level with software developers, experience as a Python developer is a plus
