Job Description
Amazon Studios Virtual Production (ASVP) is looking for an ASVP Camera Tracking Specialist. You will be supporting the ASVP Camera Tracking Supervisor with camera calibration and prep of all production elements needed for properly tracking a motion picture camera on-set. Your home base will be located at the historic Culver City Studios. You will support on-set camera tracking solutions for live action in-camera visual effects. Unreal will be one of the tools that you will use to link the practical set to the virtual world. You will support motion capture, data collection, and real-time compositing on a live action set. You will support workflows with film production camera departments and the Virtual Production team to ensure high quality data capture.

We will obsess over the filmmaker and the filmmaking process. Our goal is to enhance traditional filmmaking and invent new ways technology can enhance the art of storytelling.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assist the ASVP Camera Tracking Supervisor in building a robust departmental structure for managing virtual production needs
• Prepare stage and camera capture systems for real-time capture on a live action set daily
• Regularly verify position and alignment of tracked motion picture camera
• Assist in the setup of pop-up motion capture volumes
• Support the capture of high quality real-time camera tracking data and the integrity of all captured data
• Support motion capture system setup, calibration, and operation during shooting
• Assist with lens calibration and camera tracker placement on motion picture camera
• Responsible for maintenance of markers (active and passive) on tracking objects for use on motion picture cameras, props, actors, and set registration
• Work with production camera department to ensure tracking objects and sensors are always attached/calibrated to ensure continuous high quality real-time tracking data
• Maintain tracking cameras for placement, aim, and focus to facilitate proper coverage
• Ensure recording of motion capture data for each take while keeping slate names in sync with production
• Maintain synchronization and timecode of the motion capture systems
• Responsible for uptime of the real-time tracking data stream
• Working knowledge of Unreal Composure setup, calibration, and operation for real-time compositing during filming
• Contribute to the development of custom pipelines for projects with specific creative and/or technological needs (including new technology) in collaboration with Amazon's engineering teams as well as existing solutions
• Review and maintain a high level of visual quality as well as signal quality between departments

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Hands-on experience with optical motion capture systems using active tracking technology
• Must be a builder, self-starter, curious, deep diver, big thinker, honest, resourceful, inventor, story-teller, have a tremendous bias for action, and work well in a small, multi-disciplinary, specialized team
• Exposure to Unreal Engine, UE4 Composure, and an understanding of a cinema camera, both virtual and real
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and diplomacy skills
• Comfortable working under pressure in a production live-action filming environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Advanced skill with troubleshooting motion capture system issues and offering solutions
• Good understanding of the practices and procedures used in VFX, live-action film production, and the gaming industry
• Hands-on experience with OptiTrack specific camera tracking systems
• Advanced knowledge of both genlock and timecode
• Familiarity with lens calibration and lens profiling
• Working knowledge of Unreal blueprinting and virtual cameras
• Familiarity with version control systems, eg., Perforce, Git
• Advanced computer literacy with Windows and Linux/Mac Operating systems
• Very organized, detail-oriented, and the ability to efficiently multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• On-set, live broadcast, and/or Post-production experience (Camera Tracking or Camera Deptartment a plus)
• Familiarity with VFX workflows and software
• Experience with facial motion capture a plus
