Job summary
At Amazon Music we are creating an immersive audio-first entertainment service spanning music and spoken world that connects customers, artists and creators, through music, stories, culture and community. As a Data Scientist, you will play an integral part in defining the roadmap of Amazon Music apps, improve customers experience and work with engineers, designers, PMs and other scientists on enhancing the functionality and the ease of use of Amazon Music apps. You will have the opportunity working with rich events datasets, performing analytical deep dives and building models to drive improvement of immersive audio experience.
Key job responsibilities
• Interact with product, science, engineering and business teams to develop an understanding and domain knowledge of processes, system structures, and business requirements.
• Analyze complex and interrelated datasets describing customer behavior, messaging, content, product design and financial impact.
• Apply statistical or machine learning knowledge to specific business problems and data.
• Propose Data Science solutions, create prototypes and simulations to test them.
• Utilize code (SQL/Python/R) for data analyzes and modeling algorithms.
• Advocate technical solutions to business stakeholders, engineering teams, as well as executive level decision makers.
• Work closely with data engineers to integrate prototypes into production systems.
• Excel in evaluating the skill sets of candidates to make successful hiring decisions to meet business needs.
• Contribute to progress of the Amazon and broader research communities by producing publications
A day in the life
You will work on highly visible projects aimed at improving UX of Amazon Music apps. Your actionable analytical insights, predictive machine learning models and statistical analyses will be used by PMs, engineers and leadership to introduce new features and to define the roadmap. You will be working closely with data engineers to introduce the prototypes of your models into production, so that they can improve user experience of millions of Amazon Music customers.
About the team
This role has the opportunity to sit in Mexico City, San Francisco Bay Area (including Sunnyvale), Los Angeles metro area (including Culver City), and Seattle.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree
• 3+ years of experience with data scripting languages (e.g SQL, Python, R etc.) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, or Matlab)
• 2 years working as a Data Scientist
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• MSc/Ph.D. in a relevant field
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in modeling and analysis, causal inference, and in deploying machine learning / deep learning models in production.
• Experience applying various machine learning techniques and understanding the key parameters that affect their performance
• Experience developing experimental and analytic plans for data modeling processes, use of strong baselines, and the ability to accurately determine cause and effect relationship
• Experience with UX science and analytics
