The Content Analysis & Strategy team at Amazon Music sits at the intersection of data science, technology, and music. We distill broad insights and strategies from the vast amounts of music & podcast consumption data, and we connect those insights to action by building systems and processes to push forward our audio goals.
As an applied scientist on our team, you will leverage your strong background in Computer Science and Machine Learning to help automate and connect our affinity signals to the broader Amazon Music ecosystem. Developing fandom by connecting our customers to their favorite artists & creators is a leading strategy at Amazon Music, and you will help us understand and build up our products by using these fan signals at scale.
This role requires a pragmatic leader, who can deeply understand how listeners become fans of artists & creators, who can summarize complex historical and predictive data into clear explanations, and who can work comfortably across multiple business and technical teams to design, goal, and implement these models and code.
Key job responsibilities
• Deeply study and synthesize how listeners engage with artists, creators, and content
• Drive innovation by developing data models to assess content performance and affinity
• Communicate key trends and correlations to materially improve our platform's impact
• Use data mining, machine learning, and strategic business analysis to help contextualize what our customers are doing
• Design, build, and deploy effective ML solutions to connect the content signals we see on platform to broader systems throughout Amazon Music and beyond
• Be a strategic thought partner to the Content and Industry teams on the ground
About the team
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• PhD or equivalent Master's Degree plus 4+ years of experience in CS, CE, ML or related field
• 2+ years of experience of building machine learning models for business application
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
• Passion for music & culture - we sit on one of the most interesting data sets in the world. Use it to discover how people engage with music
• A business mindset - you understand the realities of how businesses are run, and want to use data to help build better levers
• Great communication skills - you can use data to present not just the numbers, but the stories behind what's happening
• Leadership - you will be working hand-in-hand with executives across Amazon Music and the wider music industry
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior work experience as an applied scientist or a data scientist in a consumer media & entertainment company
• Ability to communicate technical concepts and solutions to non-technical audiences
• Experience with extracting, cleaning, and transforming data and working with business stakeholders to understand the data
