News Editor/Producer, Music & Entertainment - ABC News Audio (PT)
ABC Audio, a division of ABC News, has an immediate, part-time opening for an experienced music and entertainment content editor. This is a five-day-a-week part-time position with set hours and deadlines, though hours may occasionally be modified as circumstances warrant.
The editor will be responsible for reviewing written news stories intended for online publication and ensuring their accuracy, adherence to legal and ethical standards, ABC News policy, and best journalistic practices. The ideal candidate will have several years of journalism experience and outstanding working knowledge of broadcast and digital newswriting, including Associated Press style and fundamentals of grammar and composition.
This is not an entry-level position. Candidates must be experienced, dependable, professional and able to hit the ground running. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated candidate to move up to the national level and show what they can do.
Responsibilities:
• Proofread, fact-check and correct broadcast- and print-ready text content and audio/video content against deadline in a fast-paced, collaborative news environment.
• Ensure content compliance with ABC News policy and best journalistic practices.
• Provide professional feedback as necessary to writing staff regarding their work.
• Coordinate efforts with senior editors and supervisors.
• Write news stories as circumstances may warrant.
Basic Qualifications:
• Strong online research and computer skills are required.
• Outstanding familiarity with Associated Press style, and command of the fundamentals of grammar, composition and newswriting.
• Must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.
• Must be adept at using online content management/publication systems and digital image processing applications, e.g. Adobe Photoshop.
• Must be familiar with current pop culture, music, entertainment and celebrity news, including movies, broadcast television, streaming and online content.
• Digital audio and video recording and editing skills are preferred, e.g. Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition.
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
