About WLUC:

WLUC has been a fixture in Upper Michigan for over 65 years. The #1 rated WLUC is the market leader and an NBC affiliate. Our newsroom also produces a weeknight newscast that airs on our FOX affiliate.

This position is in the main WLUC station in Negaunee Township. It's a chance to gain news and/or sports journalism experience in the field. The U.P. is a recreational paradise. Winter, summer, spring or fall, if you enjoy the outdoors, this is the place for you. The small town setting is peaceful and safe, but still has the big city entertainment and dining experiences. The people of Upper Michigan make this area stand out with their friendly, helpful, honest and fun approach to life.

Internship Summary/Description:

If you have the desire to grow your news and/or sports journalism skills, take initiative and have the ability to reflect on your work and apply feedback, then you could be our next intern. This is a unique opportunity to complement your classroom experience and learn from some of the best, award-winning journalists in the business. This is a paid, part-time internship!

Primary job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Must be available for at least two, approximately 8-hour shifts/week. We are a 24/7 news operation, so days/nights/weekend shifts are available.
- Must be pursuing a college degree in journalism, mass communications, radio/television/film or related field. Junior status or higher preferred.
- Must have a responsible presence on social media/other digital platforms.
- Knowledge of AP Style (on digital platforms) and broadcast writing (for television) is a plus.
- Ability to maintain a positive work environment by behaving in a manner in which you work well with staff, our sources/interviewee subjects, and viewers.
- Must dress professionally.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), proven news judgment, ethics and integrity.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Strong work ethic, organizational and leadership skills.
- Must be able to work quickly, make deadlines, multi-task and show composure in spot news situations.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
