Job Description

DESCRIPTION:

Division Overview:
Our department programs, plans and executes FCC mandated closed captioning for every CBS Television Network (CTN) program, to every daypart and time zone, as well as video description where required by the FCC.

The department additionally supports every legacy CBS division/brand with an FCC obligation to provide closed captioning and video description, as well as to those who provide it voluntarily (e.g., CBSN CC 24/7/365 and CBS All Access video description). This includes CBS All Access, CBSN, CTS, CTD, CBSSports.com, CBSSN, etc. It also includes an increasing amount of support to legacy Viacom brands (e.g., BET and Nickelodeon).
Our work protects ViacomCBS, the reputation of our Company, every CBS owned and affiliated station, and virtually every ViacomCBS brand in our FCC compliance duties, while diligently serving those ViacomCBS consumers who require accessible media.

Role Details:

The intern will be immersed in a fast paced work environment providing direct exposure to and experience with the wide spectrum of content and clients we serve, including live CBS News and CBS Sports programs.

Your Day-to-Day:

The intern will work on projects including:
• Closed captioning workflows prep and oversight of our outside access services vendors for CBS THIS MORNING, CBS EVENING NEWS, 48 HOURS, 60 MINUTES, and other regularly scheduled CBS News programs and Special Events.
• Same as above for CBS Sports content. Dependent upon when the intern is in place, they may work on the NFL, NCAA football and basketball, PGA, UEFA soccer, etc.
• Learn about broadcast, cable, and IP platform based network workflows and distribution, applying that knowledge in action on live and pre-recorded content.
• Learn about closed captioning, video description and other access technologies; past, present and future, including the ongoing ViacomCBS migration to the cloud.
• Learn about the politics and sensitivities of providing FCC mandated accessible content.

Logistics:
• This is a paid internship and can also be for university credit if it meets your university's guidelines
• Full-time, 40 hours per week

QUALIFICATIONS:

What you bring to the team:

You have -
• Intern must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college, university or bootcamp
• Must be at least 18 years old
• College junior or senior preferred in a related major (e.g., Journalism, Communications or English)
• Ability to work variable hours; including early morning through evening, both weekdays and weekends.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential.
• Ability to work independently with both internal stakeholders and external partners (access services vendors) in a high pressure live television environment.
• Good PC skills are also required.
