Environment Concept Intern

Santa Monica, CA

Come join the award-winning God of War development team! Sony Santa Monica Studio is looking for a concept artist with a focus on environments to help us create imaginative and unique worlds that set a high bar for creativity and complexity. This individual will contribute to the artistic vision working with art teams to create concepts that set the tone of the game, and bring it to life. Help us create visuals that define our industry!

As a concept artist focused on environments, you must possess the ability to effectively collaborate with the concept art team and other team members to design worlds that are visually stunning and cohesive while also working with a wide range of development team members to ensure technical feasibility.

As an intern, you'll get exposure to real projects and challenges in a vibrant environment and gain real-world experience!

Responsibilities:
• Work with the visual development team to help create environment concepts and documentation.
• Create rough sketches, fully rendered illustrative pieces, material sheets, model turns, color scripts, mood paintings, matte paintings, paint overs, color palettes and other visual guides as needed by the development team.
• Research pertinent subject matter to bring believably to the environments that we create.
• Undertake research and initiate information gathering prior to the commencement of a new task to ensure game design needs, reference materials, artistic direction and technological considerations are effectively managed to meet defined goals.

Qualifications:
• Current or post-graduate (up to 1 year) student majoring in Fine Arts, Visual Art, or Studio Arts.
• Strong foundation skills, (composition, perspective, draftsmanship, color theory and lighting, design, landscapes / architecture / organic forms, 2D & 3D design).
• Proficiency in the use of Photoshop/Painter as well as traditional painting/rendering techniques. Understanding of the fundamentals of 3D packages a plus.
• Good communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
• You love learning new things!
