Job Description
The Max Defender 8 internship is for college students interested in understanding the field of broadcast meteorology and majoring in an atmospheric science field. The internship is unpaid, and the student must be receiving college credit. The intern will work closely with different members of the Max Defender 8 Weather Team to develop practical broadcast skills that use the theories of meteorology and forecasting learned in the classroom.
Duties will include
• Forecasting the daily weather from the next 24 hours through 8 days
• Willing to work at least 16 hours a week for up to 15 weeks
• Creating informative graphics
• Learning to tell the important weather story of the day
• Writing and understanding digital and social media posts
• Researching interesting weather and creating supportive graphics
• Practicing delivering forecasts to understand the chroma key wall and how to effectively communicate to viewers
Requirements and skills
• Basic understanding of the theories of meteorology
• Majoring in an atmospheric science
• Core understanding of forecasting
• Previous internship experience is a plus
• Willingness to learn and ask questions
Internship details
• At least a junior in college and must receive college credit for the internship
• The student is aware this is a non-paid internship
• The student will complete any forms necessary from the college or university to receive college credit
