Consumer Insights (CI) / User Experience (UX) Research Internship - Summer 2023

Come join a diverse and collaborative team of Social Scientists, UX/Product and Market Researchers, and Research Operations to bring human perspective and consumer insight to Netflix's world of entertainment. You'll work directly with cross functional partners across Netflix, including Data Science, Design and Product. Our primary research ranges from formative to evaluative, and uses approaches such as focus groups, in-depth interviews, usability studies, ethnography, quantitative surveys, as well as statistical modeling.

The 2023 Consumer Insights Internship will be specifically partnered with our Product Experience Group within CI. This group focuses on uncovering and advocating for current and future Netflix members' evolving needs. The ideal candidate will have a background in social science such as anthropology, ethnography, psychology, sociology, behavioral economics, HCI, or UX research. They'll have interest and some training in using research methods - especially qual and/or quant research - to shape the global product experience and increase member joy.

We're looking for candidates who are excellent communicators, passionate about product experience, entertainment and tech, eager to engage new audiences, and curious about the complexities of supporting teams that have a global and regional view of future solutions.

What You'll Do
• Work closely with researchers and cross-functional partners to examine and leverage existing insights to generate new hypotheses applied to business questions.
• Assist in identifying and prioritizing knowledge gaps where research can be impactful, and recommend potential methods to address those knowledge gaps.
• In partnership with your team, execute primary and secondary research projects, such as qualitative interviews, prototype evaluations, survey development, and/or data analysis (statistical modeling, e.g.regression analysis, data mining, experience with: SQL [preferred, not required], R or Python.
• Synthesize & communicate findings, craft actionable, data-driven recommendations in partnership with the team.
• Collaborate in running readout sessions and workshops to help stakeholders understand and engage with insights.

What You'll Do
• Currently enrolled in a PhD program of study, with at least one additional quarter or semester of school remaining after the conclusion of the internship.
• Degree study in Cognitive Psychology, Sociology, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science, Design, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, Social Science, Anthropology, Human Factors or related fields.
• Experience executing hands-on, primary research as part of school curriculum or external work
• Clear presentation and communication style
• Knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods (e.g., interview, diary study, UX evaluation, social listening, survey sampling & design, statistical analysis, regression modeling, experimental design)
• Can flourish in our unique company culture
• Strong team player who is comfortable giving and receiving feedback openly
• Comfortable working independently, with strong communication and interpersonal skills

The Summer Internship

Internships will be a minimum of 12 weeks, with timing flexible to candidate needs. Conditions permitting, our summer internships will be located in our Los Gatos, CA office, or in our Los Angeles, CA office, depending on the team.

We use market indicators to determine compensation and consider your specific internship team, degree, and years of education to get it right. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location.

The overall market range for Netflix Internships is typically $40/hour - $110/hour.
