Overview

Summary The Intern – Player Development will work closely with Arizona player development staff during minor league spring training, extended spring training, the Arizona Complex season and all off-season programming conduct between January and September concerning day-to-day player development tasks and administrative duties This position requires timeliness, aptitude, and a physical capability to conduct all aspects of baseball related field work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Assist with day-to-day player development tasks as directed by minor league field coordinators, including throwing batting practice, taking part in throwing programs as well as field set-up and takedown.
• Assist Technology Operations staff with baseball related technology setups, operation, and troubleshooting.
• Serve as a temporary bullpen catcher when minor league catchers are not present and/or not capable of handling the complex workload.
• Assist with other baseball related tasks, including but not limited to hitting fungoes, setting up pitching machines and assisting Rehab Pitching Coach and Rehab Coordinator with rehab throwing programs as needed.
• Assist with travel arrangements for minor league players and player development staff members for Spring Training and both in-season player transactions and off-season programs.
• Assist Senior Manager - Baseball Administration with day-to-day player development administration involving players and staff.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Applicants should have recent baseball playing experience and have a strong desire to working inside of a player development department in professional baseball.
• Demonstrate high competence in Microsoft Office applications, Confluence, and Slack.
• Demonstrate high competence and compliance with the Milwaukee Brewers Player Development processes and principles.

Education and/or Experience
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); some college preferred
• Relatively recent experience as a baseball player, either professionally or in college
Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to recognize and decipher situations that require immediate attention as noted in the MBBC minor league player handbook referring to organizational policy

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Spanish speaking preferred.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The Minor League season requires that a coach work minor league Spring Training Camp (and approx 15 games), Regular Season (144 games) and, if assigned, Instructional League Camp (and approx. 20 games). Physical stamina required to be actively on the field at all games and practices, in heat and cold, and varying weather conditions. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, run, throw baseballs (batting practice, and hit fungoes), sit, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including heat, cold and various forms for precipitation. Inside working conditions may include confined areas (batting cages). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Work Hours

Work hours will vary dramatically with the game schedule.
