Tours Intern

Department: Stadium Operations

Supervisor: Coordinator, Tours

Classification: Part-Time/Seasonal/Non-Exempt

Summary:

The individual selected for the Tours internship will be exposed to all aspects related to operations of our Tours and Guest Services Department. This individual should be ready and comfortable interacting with small and large groups who come to Minute Maid Park from all over the city, country, and even the world. This intern will have opportunities to learn the business of tours and events in its entirety. Each day will bring new opportunities to learn about Stadium Operations, the Guest Services Department, and the Astros organization.

Essential Functions:
• Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating guided tours of Minute Maid Park.
• Provide superior customer service to clients and prospects by monitoring department email account.
• Conduct educational, public, and private tours of the ballpark as needed.
• Learn how to maintain communication with prospective customers.
• Learn to generate invoices and finalize payments for scheduled events.
• Prepare and distribute contracts, event sheets, special projects, and related material to appropriate personnel.
• Provide support to the Guest Services Department in the performance of administrative and game day duties.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and/or Skills:
• Prospective intern candidates majoring in Hospitality, Sales and Marketing or relevant work experience.
• Strong public speaking skills.
• Ability to memorize a script is strongly preferred.
• Candidates should have good working knowledge of business-related software (Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel).
• Have a positive, upbeat, and fun deposition.
• Flexibility and willingness to work extended hours, evenings, and weekends.
• Experience and comfort in public speaking and working with children.
• Creative, energetic, and proactive approach to work.
• Knowledgeable of the Houston Astros and Major League Baseball history is a plus.
• Must be able to maintain a positive attitude while handling difficult situations.
• Demonstrated quick learner with ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Background in tours and/or events and sales preferred.

Work Environment

This job operates in an office, clerical setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a sedentary and mobile role. The individual will be moving throughout the ballpark daily. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see and hear. The employee is required to sit for long periods of time, use hands/fingers to utilize various electronic platforms.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
