Special Events Intern

Department: Special Events

Supervisor: Director, Special Events

Classification: Intern/Part-Time/Non-Exempt

Summary:

The Special Events intern will work with the Special Events Department to learn about the execution of all non-baseball events and meetings held at Minute Maid Park. Our events business is wide-reaching and includes business meetings, galas, trade shows, corporate team building such as batting practices and softball games, holiday parties, and social events such as weddings and receptions

The internship requires an inquisitive, responsible self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This person must be a strong communicator with above average computer skills. Ideal intern candidates should possess confidence and poise to deal with all of these entities.

Essential Functions:
• Learn about all aspects of special events from administrative tasks such as contract generation, answering inquiries, disseminating information and database upkeep to the day-of event execution from start to finish.
• Network and work with all departments within the Astros organization, our event execution partners and vendors, and our corporate and social clients.
• Learn through observation and execution how a Special Events department functions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education or Experience and/or Skills:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• In pursuit or recent completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Communications, Marketing or a related field is preferred.
• Shown past interest in Special Events field through previous internships, jobs, or shadowing opportunities.
• High level of professionalism with ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
• Superior attention to detail and deadline orientation.
• Ability to work efficiently.
• Highly motivated with strong work ethic.
• Ability to maintain discretion concerning confidential records.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on excel and word preferred.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously.
• Strong written and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment:

This job operates in an office, clerical setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment.
