KGO-TV (ABC7) Sports Internship, Summer/Fall 2022

ABC7 in San Francisco is looking for a Sports Intern. You'd get paid to watch sports. Seriously. It doesn't get any better than that. Our sports interns are the eyes and ears of the department. You'd be tracking the live game broadcasts and alerting us of any key trends, stats, and information. There are also opportunities to go to the games and help our photographer gather interviews on the field pregame and in the locker rooms postgame, pending health and safety protocols.

The internship program is designed to provide students with an educational experience that complements their academic studies. Interns will have an opportunity to participate in the daily work and operations of a major market television station.

Responsibilities:

A day in the life…
Some of your projects with the KGO Sports team may include:
• Logging live games
• Helping our sports photographers in the field
• Learning and asking questions from the Sports Department staff

Basic Qualifications:

What you bring to the role…
• Major or previous coursework in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related major
• Experience with MS Office
• Prior newsroom internship
• Strong, ongoing knowledge of hard news/current events
• Strong writing skills
• Attention to detail
• Flexibility and ability to multi task in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:
• Junior or Senior-level standing, or a recent graduate within 6 months of graduation date.
• Courses taken in producing/writing/editing.
• Previous experience (academic or internship) in journalism (print and/or broadcast); television, news and new media production; and/or television news script writing.
• Thorough knowledge/experience using social media.
• Knowledge of news editing software such as Adobe Premiere or Dalet.

Required Education
• Must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR graduated within the last 6 months.

Additional Information:

Internship Eligibility:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
• All candidates must be eligible to work in the US

Work Environment
• All candidates must be available from May/June 2022 through early January 2023
• All candidates must be available to work 20-24 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor, and could include nights, weekends and holidays)
• All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session
• All candidates must be able to work in the San Francisco office and provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
