WTVD (ABC11) Production Intern, Spring 2023

ABC11/WTVD, the ABC-Owned Television station in Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville, North Carolina has an exciting opportunity for a paid internship.  The internship is open to college juniors and seniors majoring in Journalism or Communications.  This position teaches behind-the-scenes studio operations.  You will learn how to work multiple roles for live newscasts as well as create high-impact content.

A Day in the Life…

As an intern, you will have a unique, hands-on opportunity to experience what it takes to work at a local television station.  You will learn about the newsgathering process, on-air execution, and behind-the-scenes technology. 
• Work closely with reporters, producers and the digital team  
• Set up interviews  
• Learn to create high-impact videos, graphics, and social content  
• Learn to create short- and long-form content 
• Submit FOIAs  
• Write for television and digital  
• Collaborate with digital team to create online content for ABC11.com and the ABC11 streaming apps  
• Learn to assist with various production elements, including running the Teleprompter and building graphics  
• Log interviews with use of newsroom software  

What we are looking for…
• Highly motivated college junior or senior majoring in Journalism or Communications  
• Knowledge of how to log interviews, screen calls, and emails  
• Knowledge of how to operate DSLR and iPhone cameras  
• Some editorial experience in rooting out a story  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills  

Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of shooting video with sound with various cameras – production cameras, digital still cameras, and phone cameras 
• Prior internship or job experience in production

Required Education:
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, or be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months at time of application, or be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program

Required Materials:
• Resume (outlining all of your required qualifications)  
• College transcripts (official or unofficial)  

Additional Details:
• All students must possess unrestricted work authorization  
• All candidates must be eligible to work in the US  
• Must be at least 18 years old  
• This internship is on-site. All candidates must be able to work in the Raleigh/Durham office and provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
• All candidates must be available during the months of February 2023-June 2023
• All candidates must be willing to work 12 hours/week, for a total of 240 hours over the course of the internship  
• Must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the season
