Job Description
KABC-TV is an ABC owned television station (OTVS), located in a state-of-the-art facility in Glendale, near downtown Los Angeles. The station is in the #2 ranked television market in the country. Weekly, ABC7 produces over forty-four hours of local news, public affairs, magazine programs and public service campaigns. ABC7 Los Angeles has the top TV news website and app in the LA market, and we're proud to say we have the most-followed Facebook and Twitter accounts of any station in the entire country.

The internship program is designed to provide students with an on-site educational experience that complements their academic studies. Interns will have an opportunity to observe and participate in the daily work and operations of a major market television station.

Responsibilities:

A day in the life...
We're looking for a dynamic, technically-savvy news junkie to intern with our successful digital team, based in the newsroom at our Glendale studios.

As the Digital News intern, you will be:
• Writing and posting digital news articles from various sources ie wires, raw info, etc…
• Reworking TV news scripts for digital presentation.
• Posting to social media, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
• Editing and posting original video and newscast packages.
• Assisting with livestreaming breaking news and events.
• Coordinating coverage with digital producers.
• Assisting with various support tasks.
• Assisting with overall maintenance of the high editorial standards of ABC7 and abc7.com.

Basic Qualifications:

What you bring to the role…
• Previous experience (academic or internship) in journalism (broadcast/print/digital).
• Proficiency with AP Style.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Familiarity with social media news outlets.
• Strong editorial knowledge and sharp news judgment.
• Basic computer skills, including common keyboard shortcuts.
• Able to thrive in a team environment but also work well independently.
• Digital video editing skills.
• Basic Photoshop skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• Junior or Senior-level standing, or a recent graduate within 6 months of graduation date.
• Previous internship in a professional newsroom/local news affiliate.
• Thorough knowledge/experience using social media.
• Knowledge of basic HTML.
• Experience with Adobe Premiere.
• Familiarity with Outlook.
• Courses taken in producing/writing/editing (Preditor).

Additional Information:

Internship Eligibility:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
• Must possess unrestricted work authorization
• All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session

Work Environment
• This internship is both a remote and in-person internship.
• All candidates must be available from January 2022 through May/June 2022
• All candidates must be available to work 24 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor, and could include nights, weekends and holidays)
• The internship requires a working, reliable internet connection, as well as a quiet and dedicated work space, but must be willing to commute to the television studio building (as necessary)​​
• All candidates must be able to work in the Glendale office and provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship.
